About True Digital Surgery

A B. Braun innovation engine for microsurgery advancement.

Our Mission

With a two-decade legacy that began in 2007 with the formation of TrueVision Systems, and its subsequent spinout in 2018, True Digital Surgery has been dedicated to pioneering innovation in microsurgery. We develop breakthrough technologies, rapid prototypes, and transformative solutions that ultimately lead to better patient outcomes—that is what drives us. Throughout our history, TDS has been advancing surgical visualization with cutting-edge features that build on advancements in ergonomic surgery with optical systems that have been in use since the 1950s. Our extensive efforts led first to the creation of the Aesculap Aeos®, the digital exoscope that enables an entire surgical team to look up at a 55-inch monitor and see a fully immersive 3D view—a benefit that can reduce the number of surgeons (87%)1 whose careers have been curtailed or ended by neck and back pain. As an Innovation Hub within the B. Braun family, we pair our agility, creativity, and technological expertise with B. Braun's global scale and longstanding commitment to improving patient outcomes. Our mission is to explore bold ideas, rapidly develop and validate emerging technologies, and translate clinical needs into practical, impactful solutions for the medical community.
Our Mission

At Our Core: Exoscopy

At the heart of TDS innovation is the exoscope—a transformative approach to surgical visualization. The Aesculap Aeos® digital exoscope represents a paradigm shift from traditional optical microscopes, enabling entire surgical teams to share an immersive, high-definition 3D view.

Unlike conventional microscopes that limit visualization to a single surgeon, exoscopy democratizes the surgical field—improving team collaboration, training opportunities, and ultimately patient outcomes.

The Aesculap Aeos® has set a widely adopted standard in exoscopic surgery worldwide.

The Aesculap Aeos® is our flagship exoscope platform, now installed in hospitals across 26 countries and setting the standard for digital microsurgery worldwide.

Our Innovation Story

True Digital Surgery has consistently demonstrated its ability to provide transformative solutions to medical devices that ultimately lead to better patient outcomes. Our robotic-assisted movements allow the surgeon to exercise complete control of their positioning with precision, offering multiple repositioning options including Assisted Drive, Waypoints, Lock-on-Target, and Hands-Free, among other features.

Today, our Aesculap Aeos® device has been installed in hospitals across 26 countries and has set a widely adopted standard in exoscopic surgery. In 2017, our company forged a strategic relationship with B. Braun, the highly respected healthcare company with a nearly two century legacy as a leader in medical devices, instruments and services, as our global sales and marketing partner. This mutual success led, in September 2025, to B. Braun acquiring TDS.

Now, fueled by B. Braun's 64,000 employees, world-renowned expertise, impeccable brand reputation and unsurpassed technological resources and talent, TDS is accelerating its R&D activity to bring the next generation exoscope to market. With its eye on the future and a product roadmap that leverages our position as a game-changing Innovation Hub within the B. Braun family of companies, TDS is uniquely positioned as a significant force in further advancing the next generation of exoscopic visualization solutions.

Voices from Our Team

What it means to be an Innovation Hub.

"TDS has consistently demonstrated its ability to provide transformative solutions to medical devices that ultimately lead to better patient outcomes. That is what drives us. As iron sharpens iron, aligning these technologies across the broader B. Braun family benefits the entire B. Braun product portfolio."

Jeff Watson
Senior Director, Software Engineering

"For me, the best part of working here is finding or being presented with an interesting problem and then developing a solution that satisfies all the requirements and all the stakeholders. And knowing that our work is being used to help heal people!"

George Polchin
Fellow and Director, Advanced Development

"Becoming an Innovation Hub within the B. Braun family represents an exciting new chapter for TDS. We will serve as a catalyst for engineering transformation—leveraging our unique capabilities in surgical visualization, robotics, and artificial intelligence to help shape the future of medical devices across the B. Braun ecosystem."
